FASHION MONTH AT THE MUSEUM - FASHION DIALOGUE WITH MUSIC

Music and dress: female characters in the world of bourgeois musical culture. Students of the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet will establish a dialogue with musicologist Dr. Marko Motnik through solos and a piano recital.
The event is part of the Fashion Month 2025 at the Maribor Regional Museum entitled "FASHION AND MUSIC". In a reflection entitled Music and Clothing: Female Characters in the World of Bourgeois Musical Culture, musicologist Dr. Marko Motnik will highlight the "feminization" of music in the 19th century, which was also reflected in clothing fashion and music as a value that determined social boundaries and reputation. Students from the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet will establish a dialogue with him with solos and a piano recital. In 19th-century bourgeois society, musical education was a value that determined social boundaries, as music was not accessible to everyone. In the 19th century, a general "feminization" of music can be observed, where dedication to art was also reflected in clothing fashion. It is no coincidence that the piano, at the side of which young bourgeois women surrendered to their love of music, was the focus of interest.
