Recycleman

A sound that Slovenia had never known before

Recycleman, once known as Ali En, hit the domestic music scene three decades ago like a comet, causing an earthquake whose tremors are still echoing today.

His debut album Leva scena shocked the public upon its release and stirred the Slovenian music landscape. This funky hip-hop masterpiece, created with an exceptional sense of detail and infused with elements of jazz, rock, and trip-hop, permanently marked the 90s in Slovenia.

With his originality and boldness, Ali En created a sound that Slovenia had never known before. In his lyrics, he sharply confronted the entire music scene – without leniency, even against the biggest pop stars. Skillfully written lyrics in the Slovene language flowed easily through funky rhythms, like a cold drink down a thirsty throat on a hot summer evening. With Ali En, the Slovene language became urban, and skateboarders became a legitimate tribe.

Metalheads, punks, and many others who had never considered rap in Slovenian to be cool, meaningful, or even a super fresh musical style, became devoted followers of Ali En.

Later, he experienced several reincarnations – as DJ Poha and Of Gobe, he made a more intense appearance on the DJ scene, where today he performs and creates under the name Recycleman.

He performs live with his band every few years, but each time he proves that funk is alive, hip-hop is playful, and rap is still strongly meaningful. Generations of his fans spread positive energy regardless of musical trends – because classics remain classics.

The album Leva scena is a timeless masterpiece that, due to its influence and originality, has undoubtedly secured a prestigious place on the list of the most important Slovenian albums.
