The Basel Chamber Orchestra is one of the outstanding ensembles that regularly grace the stage in Maribor, impressing with their excellence and imaginative versatility. On this occasion, they will honor the milestone anniversary of the Concert Management with a unique and meaningful programme. We’ll celebrate the power of women in music—past and present—alongside two rising stars and extraordinary works that are finally reclaiming their place on the world’s stages after years of undeserved neglect.

The orchestra will perform under the baton of Bulgarian conductor Deljana Lazarova, whose career boasts numerous international achievements. She will be joined by Alexandra Dovgan, a young Russian pianist who, despite her teenage years, has already become a sensation on the most prestigious stages around the globe—wowing audiences with her mastery and maturity.

The evening opens with Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto, a youthful yet deeply expressive piece written when she was just fourteen. Filled with virtuosic passages and gentle beauty, the concerto reveals her brilliance as both a widely admired soloist and a gifted composer. Next, we’ll rediscover Emilie Mayer’s Symphony No. 4, a powerful creation by one of the most important—but long overlooked—symphonic composers of the 19th century and a contemporary of Clara Schumann.

After intermission, the focus turns to the present with a contemplative work by Nana Forte, a Slovenian composer living in Maribor. Shades of My Silence explores delicate sonic landscapes and emotional depth. The concert will conclude with Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor, a passionate interplay of intensity, tenderness, and elegance—truly one of the most beloved masterpieces of 19th-century piano music.
