Kamishibai is an art form that originated in ancient Japan. The word literally means "paper theatre" and combines storytelling with illustrations shown in a small wooden stage (butai). By changing the pictures, the storyteller conjures up worlds ranging from traditional Japanese tales to bold contemporary narratives. On our streets, this unique form of theatre — which has survived the digital age thanks to its authenticity and direct connection with the audience — will momentarily stop time and invite you into a world of imagination, where each picture tells a thousand words, brought to life by the storyteller’s voice.
