Street Variety Show
In the park, we can observe the colors of the trees, the sounds of birds, and people strolling or enjoying their free time. If we pause and watch more closely, new details are revealed — the park comes to life. The trees turn into scenery, the bird songs become melodies, and passersby transform into characters full of stories waiting to be discovered.
Dreams of Street Dwellers: A Song for the Park is a site-specific theatre event that turns everyday interactions into a unique theatrical experience. The performance begins with a guided walk, during which the host gradually awakens the audience’s senses for observation, appreciation, and wonder. Upon entering the park, the audience is invited to sit in a thoughtfully chosen spot and open their senses. Soon, various characters begin to walk through the park, immersed in their daily routines. Then, an old woman with a walking stick and a mysterious suitcase appears. She notices the audience and transforms the park into a stage where untold stories unfold in the style of a street variety show.
Street performances are filled with artistic magic — the kind where any public space can suddenly become a theatre, where the audience gathers spontaneously to collectively enjoy art. Masks add another layer of magic, living in a world of archetypes and projections. Dreams of Street Dwellers brings all this together as a tribute to public space and to people like you who inhabit it. This poetic theatrical intervention using larval masks is an homage to street art, its creators, and the spaces they bring to life.
The show was awarded the 2024 Urban Ljubljana Award for Excellence in Street Theatre.
