Adam Ben Ezra & Michael Olivera: Heavy Drops
Over the past decade, Adam Ben Ezra has completely transformed the perception of the double bass and brought it closer to a younger generation. With more than 20 million views on social media, collaborations with stars such as Snarky Puppy, Pat Metheny, Victor Wooten, and Richard Bona, and features in media outlets like BBC, CBS News, Time Magazine, and The Telegraph, he has paved his way to becoming a phenomenon of his generation as well as an internet and festival sensation. His dazzling virtuosity is impossible to overlook; his exceptionally skillful, almost “athletic” interplay of acoustic and live-looped double bass sounds—sometimes even resembling percussion—surprises even the most experienced listeners.
At Festival Lent, he will perform in Slovenia for the first time, marking the release of the album Heavy Drops, recorded as a duo with the outstanding Cuban drummer Michael Olivera, who appeared at Festival Lent in 2024 (in a trio with pianist Alfredo Rodríguez). Michael Olivera’s career is equally impressive: he has contributed to more than 60 albums and performed with renowned artists and producers such as Quincy Jones, Chucho Valdés, Sting, Tomatito, Alfredo Rodríguez, Paquito D’Rivera, Pepe Rivero, Rick Wakeman, Yonathan Avishai, Synthesis, Chano Domínguez, and many others.
Just drums and double bass—drum ‘n’ bass—but certainly not as you’ve ever heard them before!
