Exhibition Opening: Tomaž Pandur – Searching for and Defining Beauty
A tribute to the creator who transformed the landscape of Slovenian theatre with his vision.
"Art is the search for and definition of beauty. It is the essence of our existence." – Tomaž Pandur
On the tenth anniversary of the death of director Tomaž Pandur, Drama SNG Maribor, Festival Borštnikovo srečanje, and Umetnostna galerija Maribor present a joint program honoring one of the most important Slovenian theatre creators.
The exhibition at UGM Kabinet features black-and-white theatre photographs by Angelo Božac and archival material, showcasing six key Pandur productions from his artistic leadership at the Maribor Drama between 1989 and 1996: Faust, Hamlet, Carmen, La divina commedia (Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso), Russian Mission, and Babylon. These productions profoundly marked Slovenian theatre in the 1990s and placed it on the international stage. The exhibition highlights Pandur's distinctive visual style, his fascination with beauty and symbolism, and his creation of bold stage worlds that became a signature of his artistic vision.
