Special thanks to all anonymous individuals who were willing to share their experiences.
The documentary performance Now, Suddenly, I Was a Creature of Vice is based on conversations with women who have experience with sex work in Slovenia. It approaches sex work as a legitimate form of labour, while also exposing the ways in which systems of stigma, control, and moral judgment mark individuals in the long term, regardless of their actual choices or circumstances. The collected stories do not offer a unified narrative; instead, they present fragments, contradictions, and perspectives that resist simplification.
The documentary material unfolds through a nonconformist multimedia form, moving between confession, testimony, and theatrical construction, thereby raising questions about who speaks, who listens, and under what conditions speech is possible at all. The performance does not explain or judge, but rather creates a space of audibility and reveals how bodies, labour, and voices are valued differently within existing social power relations.
Content warning: The performance includes references to sexual violence and abuse, exploitation and human trafficking, physical and psychological violence, drug use and addiction, sexually transmitted diseases, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.
