Jazz Stage: Dejan Lapanja & Gašper Peršl
A concert by the progressive jazz-rock duo Dejan Lapanja & Gašper Peršl, where instrumental compositions blend the spirit of the 1970s with a modern guitar-and-drums sound, delivered through an energetic and improvisation-driven performance.
Guitarist Dejan Lapanja and drummer Gašper Peršl step into the sonic labyrinth of progressive jazz-rock as a guitar–drum duo, weaving together instrumental compositions that echo the spirit of the 1970s with a contemporary musical edge. The Ljubljana-based pair also pursue an organic, raw essence of distorted guitar landscapes reminiscent of the late 1950s rock ’n’ roll explorations of guitarist Link Wray.
Dejan on the project:
“Back at the turn of the millennium, even before studying jazz, Gašper and I were big fans of British prog-rock bands like Yes, King Crimson, The Who, Genesis, as well as the Slovenian group Buldožer. It feels like this kind of music is finding its way back to us.”
Both musicians honed their craft in cult bands such as Olivija and the rock group Ulixes. Dejan later collaborated with artists including Laibach (Volkswagner project), Terrafolk, Vlatko Stefanovski, and Vasko Atanasovski. Today, he works with vocalist Severa Gjurin, singer-songwriter Katarina Juvančič, and the group Bakalina Velika. Drummer Gašper Peršl, a versatile figure across genres, has also been active with many well-known names on the Slovenian original music scene. Over the past 20 years, he has been a regular member of Vlado Kreslin & Mali bogovi, and currently collaborates with Nakana and singer-songwriter Jure Lesar.
Their debut album Step Out of the Shakers is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, and others.
