Širom

Širom create a unique blend of folk textures and contemporary minimalism. Hypnotic, raw and contemplative, their sound moves beyond genre boundaries into a deeply immersive live experience.

The expansive guiding principle of the Prekmurje–Tolmin–Karst collective Širom lies in weaving together diverse musical approaches and tools, histories of sound, and pure musical craftsmanship and imagination. As a trio, Iztok Koren, Samo Kutin, and Ana Kravanja collectively play over ten instruments and draw from at least as many musical forms that could be recognized as influences shaping their sound. Yet both practically and experientially, they are deeply immersed in their own material practice, allowing them to move beyond merely reflecting existing patterns.

They create a distinctive, stylistically cohesive expression that stretches between a wide spectrum of folk sonorities and contemporary acoustic, rock-inflected meditations. What ultimately emerges is a grounded yet still mystical form of minimalism. Širom’s music is contemplative, and when needed, also sharp—more band-oriented than chamber-like, more street-rooted than conventionally urban in character.

The members of Širom are also active in other musical groups and projects, including ŠKM banda, Hexenbrutal, Bakalina Velika, Šalter Ensemble, and Kačis.
