The performance And Many Others… engages in a discourse on poverty and social shame. It draws from the motifs of the short story He Denied His Mother, other works by Ivan Cankar dealing with the position of the working class and class dynamics, as well as contemporary theoretical texts addressing the working class and shame. It enters Cankar’s texts by exploring the motifs of poverty, their reflection in today’s post-capitalist context, and by confronting the confusion surrounding the understanding of working-class ideology today.
The performance raises a series of questions: what is our relationship to poverty and class position? How is poverty seen—and concealed—today? Who actually constitutes the working class in the modern era? It closely examines the relationship between children and parents regarding their own economic position and reveals how these class categories are imprinted into interpersonal relations and shape them.
