Inkubator
An incubator, an indispensable device for caring for prematurely born babies, symbolizes a commitment to protecting every human life, even one that is not yet biologically self-sufficient. By precisely regulating temperature, humidity, and oxygen levels, and by minimizing external stimuli, incubators recreate the conditions of the womb and play a crucial role in the survival and healthy development of premature infants.
This theatrical investigation connects the symbolism of incubators with the brutal reality of the war in Gaza. Scenes of incubators without electricity in Al-Shifa hospital and newborns huddled together to keep warm raise questions about the limits of (in)humanity.
Oliver Frljić attempted to create a similar project in Germany, where he has been most active in recent years, but due to the suppression of any pro-Palestinian voices there, this was not possible. He therefore once again joined forces with the Slovene National Theatre, where he previously created some of his most resonant (and controversial) projects.
