Ocean morje
The performance is based on the novel Ocean Sea (1993) by Italian writer Alessandro Baricco, which, with its fragmentary structure and aesthetic depth, is today considered a key work of contemporary Italian literature. Like the novel, the stage adaptation sets the action in the remote and isolated seaside resort of Almayer, an important though temporary home to numerous intentional and accidental guests—people who arrive hoping that the sea, as a final remedy, will cure their illnesses.
The stories of these unusual inhabitants—filled with lost loves, disappointments, shipwrecks, and eternal questions—initially only gently brush against one another. The arrival of a mysterious sailor and later a doctor reveals how deeply their destinies are intertwined, all of them indelibly marked by the sea. The sea, as both symbol and protagonist, becomes a constantly shifting backdrop that reflects and questions emotional states and transformations.
