Yarákä is a captivating and energetic musical collective exploring multi-ethnic influences, placing a shared rhythmic foundation of African origin at the forefront as a catalyst for bold fusions with Mediterranean and Southern Italian melodies, as well as diverse and distant musical traditions.

The group consists of three musicians from Taranto, who express personal identity through their music, rediscover traditions, and remain open to modernity and cultural intersections. Their aim is to emphasize rituality and folk traditions while exploring the ancient relationship between humans and nature.

The name Yarákä derives from a word in the Tupí-Guaraní language, one of the indigenous Amazonian cultures, referring to the four natural elements. Through this concept, they shape raw natural forces and ancient rituals into a suggestive musical form.

Their sound merges Southern Italian roots, Mediterranean melodies, and pulsating African and Amazonian rhythms into original arrangements that whisper, cry out, and leave a lasting imprint on the listener’s sensory world.

With their latest album Curannera (Zero Nove Nove, 2023), Yarákä quickly gained international recognition. The album reached 4th place on the World Music Charts Europe, attracted attention from Songlines magazine, received the Folkest 2023 award, and was featured on national radio Rai Radio3.

Curannera is a Southern Italian term for a folk healer or shaman who uses natural elements in rituals to soothe the soul and spirit. It represents the central muse of Yarákä and embodies a repertoire rooted in rituals and distant cultures. Each song becomes a healing rite—confronting fear, releasing blocked energy, and cleansing the soul through ancient song and ancestral tradition.
