Dis Lecture On Something Very Special
“A person must be brave to appear in public, but this is the only way to achieve the change they long for.” – Dalibor Šandor
Dalibor Šandor
Dis Lecture on Something Very Special is a performed lecture that explores society’s relationship toward people with disabilities. As part of the preparation process for the performance We are not monsters, Dalibor Šandor enters into a collaborative process with dramaturg Marcel Bugiel (Dr. Aculo) and artistic collaborators Frosina Dimovska (Sylphino) and Saša Asentić (Dark Lord).
The performed lecture was created as part of the project DIS_Lecture—a series of performed lectures created by artists with learning disabilities, invited to adapt the format in their own way and critically examine social exclusion and prejudice toward people with disabilities. Together with long-term collaborators, the artists reclaim a space from which they have historically been excluded: the discourse of dance and performance. The project DIS_Lecture was conceived by Saša Asentić as an accessible format that encourages critical thinking and solidarity within dance art.
The performance is part of the conference program Cripping Performance, organized by Maska Ljubljana in collaboration with the Platforma sodobnega plesa and Zavod MOJA KREACIJA in Maribor.
The image shows artist Dalibor Šandor sitting on the floor in a performative space, holding a sheet of paper and reading from it. He has a microphone attached to his ear. Next to him stands an empty black chair. The environment is simple, with a light wooden floor and a neutral wall in the background. The atmosphere feels contemplative and suggests an intimate lecture-performance.
Dalibor Šandor is a performer and member of the group Per.Art. He is interested in video games, fantasy and horror genres, and in reflecting on the social reality of disabled people in Serbia. He is the author of the concept for the performance We are not monsters.
