YU generacija • Groovocado
An evening of ex-YU rock and pure groove.

Yu Generacija
Yu Generacija is a rock band from Maribor that carries the indestructible energy of the golden era of ex-Yugoslav rock in its DNA, while firmly standing in the present. The band was born out of a love for the music that shaped generations, and today it channels that same passion into its own unique original story — Prag.
Yu Generacija brings an unforgettable blend of nostalgia and modern rock to the Festival Lent stage. Their repertoire pays tribute to the golden days of Yugoslav rock’n’roll, interpreted with respect, rawness, and top-level performance that always gets the audience singing in unison. Alongside that, they will also present their original songs such as Mesto and Obstajal je že prej, produced under the guidance of Marko Soršak – Soki, proving that Maribor still carries a strong rock spirit.

Groovocado
Groovocado is one of the healthiest musical “superfoods” on Earth, containing essential nutrients such as soul, funk, disco, pop, rock’n’roll, and gems from the 80s and 90s. It works like a remedy against stress, boredom, discomfort, and — according to recent studies — even the condition known as “safr” (Slovenian slang for emotional blues). Nine lively musicians will get your body moving.
In 2026, the band celebrates the 10th anniversary of their first performance. Their beginnings go back to 2016, when two enthusiasts discovered funk music and quickly gathered a group of friends to play funk and soul. After a powerful debut at the legendary Satchmo club, Groovocado truly came alive, repeating a packed show there the following year.
They broke through the Maribor scene and began performing more widely across Slovenia and abroad. One of their most notable performances was at the huge New Year’s celebration in 2019 at Leon Štukelj Square in Maribor. They have also played festivals such as Vinarium in Lendava, Letni oder Ruše, Prulček in Ljubljana, and Ropotanje in Zreče. Their traditional, always sold-out Christmas Groovochage concerts at KGB have been a staple since 2018.
Groovocado constantly surprises with creative arrangements, and their performances are a treat for anyone who enjoys dancing to recognizable hits from different eras.
“Even I was thinking of going home slowly, but the more I listened to Groovocado, the more I started moving. And I wasn’t the only one. In the end, it felt like the whole square was dancing.”
“…The guy in the front row was waving his crutches in the air. That’s when you know something is really good.”
— Jaša Lorenčič, Urbani.si, 2020
The band is a diverse mix of musicians — established, emerging, formally trained, self-taught — but always focused on strong synergy and the joy of playing together.
