27th Children’s Folkart – Slovenia

KUD Študent Maribor brings Slovenian folk heritage to life through young dancers, full of energy, play, and dance, and successfully presents it on numerous stages abroad.

An encounter with living cultural heritage through performances by children’s and youth folklore groups.

The children’s folklore group of KUD Študent Maribor has been active since 2010 and represents the youngest section of the Cultural and Artistic Society Študent Maribor, founded in 1964 and celebrating its 60th anniversary two years ago. The society includes several academic folklore groups and veterans, and this year also three children’s groups: younger, older, and youth groups.

The groups are known for their high-quality programmes and outstanding achievements, regularly qualifying for regional and national meetings of children’s folklore groups in Slovenia. The youth group frequently performs abroad and has presented rich Slovenian folk heritage in Poland, the Czech Republic, Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Egypt.

Through music and traditional dance, the children’s folklore groups encourage awareness of roots. We dance, and sparks fly!
