Pearls of Baroque Music
Virtuosity, elegance, and the timeless sounds of Bach, Corelli, and other masters performed by the Mariborski komorni orkester.
The concert Pearls of Baroque Music by the Mariborski komorni orkester takes listeners into the rich and expressive world of the Baroque era — a period of virtuosity, contrast, and refined musical language. The program brings together selected works from the treasury of world Baroque literature while revealing the stylistic diversity, character, and instrumentation of the period.
In the Concerto for Oboe and Strings, the soloist will be Monika Trilar Babič, principal oboist of the Slovensko narodno gledališče Maribor Orchestra. In Johann Sebastian Bach’s concertos for two harpsichords and strings, the composer explored the interpretative possibilities of the harpsichord as a solo instrument. At this concert, those roles will be performed by exceptional accordionists Amadej Herzog and Matjaž Balažic, winners of numerous international competitions.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Third Brandenburg Concerto, in which every instrument takes on a solo role, presents a major challenge both for the individual musicians and for the orchestra as a whole. Tomaso Albinoni’s Adagio, long since transcending the boundaries of Baroque literature, will be performed in an arrangement by conductor Slavko Magdić, featuring two accordions instead of the traditional organ accompaniment.
Arcangelo Corelli’s Sarabande, Gigue, and Badinerie are three Baroque dances adapted from a violin sonata and transformed into a brilliant orchestral composition. The Symphony by Slovenian composer Alojz Ivančič, written during the transition from Baroque to Classicism, concludes the concert as a lively work filled with optimism and positive energy.
The program connects the virtuosity, dance-like character, and expressive power of Baroque music with the energy of contemporary interpretation, offering audiences an evening of timeless musical gems.
