Rainbow June in Maribor
10 years of the “Maribor through Rose-Colored Glasses” program
Rainbow June in Maribor was created in 2020 as an alternative to Pride, which is organized every two years in the Styrian capital, and has since grown into something much larger.
Over the years, the festival has developed its own identity that celebrates diverse forms of queer culture, amplifies varied voices, and continually proves that LGBTQIA+ communities exist, persist, create together, gather, and live.
Today, in its fourth edition, Rainbow June in Maribor has become a kind of microcosm of the local LGBTQIA+ scene and everything that takes place throughout the year—not only during Pride events, but also before and after them.
The Mladinski kulturni center Maribor and the program “Maribor through Rose-Colored Glasses” provide space and resources for community building on multiple levels—from regular social gatherings to drag shows and other themed events where people come together. This spirit is also reflected in the Rainbow June program, co-created once again by a team of LGBTQIA+ youth who collaborate with us throughout the year.
