Tomos – racing into the (archive of) oblivion
A guest exhibition by the Regional Archives Koper reveals the story of the Tomos company through valuable archival material, photographs, technical drawings, documents, and memories from a time when Tomos shaped the everyday lives of generations.
TOMOS — more than a motorcycle. A piece of history.
The sound of an engine. The smell of oil. The first freedom on two wheels. Once present on every street, in almost every garage — today a legend.
The exhibition explores how the iconic Tomos automatic moped was created, what is hidden in archival plans, correspondence, and photographs, and why Tomos still represents more than just a means of transport. It takes visitors into a world of industrial development, design, youth culture, mobility, and nostalgia — from the first production steps to its status as an icon.
Based on original archival material preserved in the archives, the exhibition also tells the story of an important transfer of documentation that helped save a significant part of Tomos’ industrial heritage from further decay.
The exhibition is on view until 31 August 2026.
