A tribute to tradition
A traditional event on the Drava River – first held in 1985 – attracts a multitude of visitors and distinguished guests to the Drava riverbank. Join us this year too!
Rafting on the Drava River is an important part of Maribor's history. Šajkas, rafts, and ranci used to dock on Lent, as there was once a larger port for rafts here.
The key purpose of the event, where rafters christen a newcomer on a raft, is to preserve rafting, once a characteristic transportation and freight activity on the Drava River, as a tradition. At the same time, there is excellent entertainment with an attractive musical and folklore program.
Experience the raft christening
On Sunday, October 6, 2024, starting at 10:30 AM, the traditional raft christening will take place at Lent near the Oldest Grapevine House. This year's christening will be for Matic Kop, a student of the Maribor Secondary School of Woodworking and Forestry.
PROGRAM
- Arrival of rafters and cultural program
- The raft will dock at the Clock Tower at 10:30 AM and the procession of rafters will continue to the Rafter's Bridge. The rafters will be accompanied by the Kungoške pleh muzike orchestra, the Ruše majorettes, students from OŠ Kamnica, Malečniški brači, and others. At 11:00 AM, they will arrive in front of the Oldest Grapevine House and the cultural program will begin with live folk music, as well as a presentation of rafting and the Maribor Tourist Board.
