Departure is scheduled early in the morning after breakfast from the hotel or by meeting the guide at the agreed meeting point. We will begin our hike in the Pohorje forest, which is not far from the Koča na Šumiku mountain hut, then we head out on the marked forest trail to the Osankarica. This part is less demanding; we will enjoy the views, plants and perhaps meeting some other forest animals other than birds. Close to the Osankarica, we will visit the forest and the monument to the partisan unit of the Pohorje Battalion, which fell on this spot on the 8th of January 1943, in a renowned battle against the occupying forces. Each year, at the beginning of January, this spot commemorates the memory of the fallen soldiers and is attended by a large number of people. What follows is a walk on the wooden footbridge to a picnic spot by the Črno Jezero lake where we will show you the secret of the black lake’s bottom, which yet has crystal-clear water.
After the picnic, we will slowly return on the road towards our starting point. After more than an hour of walking, we will arrive at a location that is the starting point of the secured mountain path to the Veliki Šumik. The Veliki Šumik and Mali Šumik are waterfalls on the Lobnica River, located in the most wonderful natural surroundings of the forest reserve, the Pohorje primeval forest. The path to the Veliki Šumik takes about half-an-hour and takes just as long to return to the parking lot. We will end the day with a well-deserved dessert and home-brewed beer at the Koča na Šumiku.
