MARIBOR, Ptuj and Jeruzalem including ballet performance Death in Venice, 24– 25 April 2020

Dear friends! This is Slovenia, on the sunny side of the Alps! A young state, an old culture, and a marvellous landscape. Home to two million strong and proud people, who weathered the exposed junction below the Alps. In the north of this small country... lies the capital of Štajerska (the Slovenian Styria), Maribor –Europe’s Capital of Culture 2012. We invite you to spend a beautiful day in our city. On the second day, we will visit Ptuj, the oldest Slovenian city, and Jeruzalem’s sunny vineyards.

DAY 1

Arrive to Maribor at approximately 10 am. In the city centre, Saturday mornings are always very vibrant. We will stroll between the stalls close to the City Castle that always offer interesting products. At 11 o’clock, we will visit the collection in the city castle, a home of Maribor Regional Museum. After we will start the tour through medieval Maribor. We will see the magnificent Cathedral (visit of the interior), the unique memorial to the Plague – black death at the Main Square and the Europe's third oldest synagogue. Our walk we will end at the banks of the Drava river. Here, in the old part of the city called Lent, grows the world's oldest vine, The Old Vine, still bearing grapes. In the House of the Old Vine (a very interesting museum), we will try the first wine of the day! In the afternoon the accommodation in hotel in city centre; early dinner. We will take a walk to the Slovene National Theatre in Maribor, where at 7.30 pm the ballet performance Death in Venice will start.

The Maribor Ballet is guided by the internationally renowned choreograph Edward Clug, who is appreciated all around the world. Overnight in the hotel.

DAY 2

After breakfast, we will drive to Ptuj. The city lies 25 kilometres eastwards from Maribor and has gained the city rights in 977. In Ptuj and its surroundings, there is hardly a house or a farm where there are no archaeological findings from the Roman times. Here, the Ptujsko polje is a home to Kurent”. Kurent is a distinctive mask of the ancient rural community. They have almost become a national symbol. After the visit of the Castle Museum and the historical centre of Ptuj, our travel continues towards Ormož and Jeruzalem. It is a charming area of beautiful vineyards and excellent vines.
