The path to Meranovo

The path to Meranovo

Visit Meranovo - the cradle of the contemporary wine-making.

We start our journey in Limbuš at the crossroads of Ob Blažovnici and Pod gričem. There are many signposts and boards at the beginning of the trail; we follow the yellow and white markings indicating the thematic paths. From here we cross the hill where Lembach Castle once stood, then continue along the ridge of Vrhov Dol to Meranovo. On the way we have beautiful views.

Meranovo is the cradle of the contemporary wine-making in the Štajerska region. It was in 1822 the Archduke John of Austria planted the noble varieties of vine in this renowned land, following the technique used in the Rhineland. The tradition is continued with the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Maribor.

We can continue on to Andrej's apiary and then through the lush Pohorje forests all the way to Dom na Pečkah.
