Maribor City Day
The holiday of our city, its history, and all the citizens
The Municipality of Maribor celebrates its official holiday on October 20th. This date marks the anniversary of 1164, when Maribor (as the castle Marchburg) was first mentioned in historical documents.
During the holiday, the city comes alive each year with a multi-day program that connects cultural institutions, public enterprises, local creators, and citizens of all generations. Concerts, performances, exhibitions, workshops, discussion evenings, guided tours, and many activities for children take place. Many events are completely free and do not require prior registration.
What marks the celebration of the Maribor City Day?
Exploring urban heritage: Free guided tours of more or less known urban landmarks and museums, as well as thematic memorial discussion evenings about events and residents.
Culture for all generations: Creative workshops for children and adults, exhibition openings, concerts of various musical genres, and diverse theatrical performances - from stand-up and cabaret to ballet and opera.
Traditional "5 concerts on 5 hills": The highlight of the celebration takes place on October 20, when 5 completely free concerts are held at the recognizable viewpoints around Maribor (Piramida, Trikotna jasa on Pohorje, Meranovo, Malečnik – Gorca, and Kamnica).
Maribor City Day 2026
On the occasion of the 862nd birthday of the city, a traditional multi-day celebration takes place, culminating on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, with "5 concerts on 5 hills." This year, the performers include:
Pyramid – Mike Vale
Triangular Clearing on Pohorje – Karneval band
Meranovo – Estate Meranovo – Zoran Predin and Danilo Ženko
Malečnik – Gorca – Acoustic Orgasm
Kamnica – Refreshment Point Panorama – Joe & Stacey with The Rhythm Boys.
Between October 16 and 20, you can also visit many other events that will celebrate the rich history of the city and the daily life of its residents.
Maribor City Day 2025
Maribor City Day 2025 connected the city once again with music, creativity, and the discovery of hidden corners. The program was enriched by a walk along the paths of edible trees, a storytelling performance by Alenka Spacal, an art workshop at UGM, bicycle tours through the Maribor working-class colonies, and a concert by the Academic Folklore Group Študent. The musical highlight? Five concerts at five locations – with Leonart, Natalija Verboten, Serafinke, Gadi, and the Karneval band.
