Festival Lent combines concerts, street performances and family creativity in one city outing.

Festival Lent is a reason to visit Maribor with an open itinerary. Combine creative daytime activities at Art kamp with street performances and an evening concert. Organised by Narodni dom since 1993, the festival brings together different art forms and venues across the city. Choose a performance you cannot wait to see, then leave room for an unexpected discovery.

A festival with a verb of its own

“Gremo lentat”, or “let’s go lenting”, is an invitation that means more than “let’s go to a concert”. Visit Maribor uses the Slovenian word lentanje to describe enjoying the festival’s varied programme.

The expression captures the spirit of a visit: head into the city, choose a few stops and leave yourself open to whatever else catches your interest. A concert may be your destination, but your favourite memory might come from the journey there.

A riverside name, events across the city

Narodni dom Maribor has organised Festival Lent since 1993. The programme brings together music, theatre, dance, folklore and activities for children, with venues along the Drava and across the city’s squares, streets and park.

Check the venue map when planning your visit. The name Festival Lent does not mean that the entire programme takes place on one stretch of the riverfront.

Mornings in the park, evenings by the stage

Art kamp in Mestni park (City park) is the festival’s creative daytime programme. It offers encounters with artists and craftspeople, as well as activities that visitors can take part in themselves.

For a family visit, choose a few workshops and leave time to play. With friends or as a couple, combine your daytime outing with lunch before heading to your chosen evening performance.

Come for a familiar name, discover something new

The varied programme makes it easy to move between genres. A folklore performance, jazz concert or street show can be a welcome surprise, even for someone who came for a completely different kind of music.

Book ahead for the performance you do not want to miss. Leave enough time between events to get from place to place, eat and take a break.

Enjoy Festival Lent at your own pace

One festival day is enough for a first visit. Choose a daytime activity, an evening performance and some time for a stroll through the city. If you stay longer, explore a different part of the programme the following day.

Before setting off, check the current programme, tickets and the organiser’s notices about the weather and any changes. This will help you enjoy the festival at a relaxed pace, with plenty of room for discovery.
