The Pri Baronu homestead on Framsko Pohorje stands at around 700 metres above sea level. The farm covers 18 hectares, and its herb garden contains more than 60 different herbs. A visit offers the chance to discover home cooking alongside the place where some of its ingredients are grown.
A whole farm behind your lunch
The Baron homestead stands on Framsko Pohorje at around 700 metres above sea level. The farm covers 18 hectares, eight of which are cultivated as fields, meadows, an orchard and gardens.
These figures help explain the difference between visiting a farm and making an ordinary stop for a meal. Behind the food on the table is work that continues even when there are no guests: growing produce, caring for animals and preparing ingredients.
When ordering, ask what comes from the farm itself. This connects the dish with specific work and the season.
More than 60 herbs offer a fresh perspective on flavour
The farm features a herb garden with more than 60 different herbs. They use them in teas, spreads, seasonings and other products.
This is an interesting topic even for visitors who are not particularly interested in gardening. A herb you recognise in a drink or dish can be linked to the plant and its name. Ask your hosts about opportunities to visit the garden and take a guided tour.
From a wine tavern to an organic farming story
Pri Baronu began welcoming visitors in 1991 with a wine tavern. In 1999, they turned to organic farming, and in 2013 they also established a permaculture garden covering around 0.15 hectares.
The farm has thus developed through a series of decisions and different offerings. A visit is an opportunity to talk about how the work, guests’ needs and their relationship with food have changed.
A countryside visit can take you to different places
A different story awaits at the Pri Kovačniku homestead in Planica nad Framom. Angelca and Janez Štern opened it to visitors in 1981.
Choose a farm according to what you would like to experience: lunch, learning about food production, a family outing or an overnight stay. Always arrange your visit directly, as offerings and availability vary between farms.
