Key tourist guiding requirements in Slovenia and recommendations for responsible tours in Maribor.
As Slovenia enters the main tourist season and welcomes visitors from around the world, the Maribor Tourist Board would like to inform all international tour operators, travel agencies and tourist guides organising tours in Slovenia about the regulations governing tourist guiding services in the Republic of Slovenia.
Tourist guiding in Slovenia is regulated by national legislation and supervised by the Market Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia. According to the applicable regulations, tourist guides providing guiding services in Slovenia must comply with the requirements regarding professional qualifications, licence validation and the use of official tourist guide identification cards during guiding activities.
In cooperation with the Market Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia, we are publishing an information leaflet in English containing the key rules and guidelines related to tourist guiding services in Slovenia.
At the same time, we encourage all tourism stakeholders operating in Maribor to follow the principles of sustainable and responsible tourism. Maribor is a proud holder of the Slovenia Green Destination label and actively promotes sustainable visitor experiences, respectful behaviour towards the local community and the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
Additional recommendations and sustainability guidelines for tourist guides and travel agencies visiting Maribor are available in the Ethical Code and Sustainability Guidelines published by Visit Maribor.
We kindly invite all partners organising tours to Slovenia and Maribor to familiarise themselves with the applicable legislation and sustainability recommendations, and to share this information with their guides, tour leaders and collaborators. Together, we can help ensure a professional, welcoming and sustainable experience for all visitors to Slovenia and Maribor.
