On Lent, Maribor's historic riverfront, Fani&Rozi Café occupies a family house beside the Drava, close to the Judgement Tower. Its raised terrace on the renewed promenade looks towards the river, its bridges and the oldest part of the city. The café is rooted in a family history spanning four generations at this address since 1925.
The name honours great-grandmother Fani, who ran a small shop supplying raftsmen travelling down the Drava, and grandmother Rozi, remembered for her cooking and hospitality. Today, the café serves coffee, Kušter wines from Svečina, beer and seasonal drinks. Roses and lavender grow beside the terrace, adding a small garden to the riverfront setting.
The house also has a literary connection: Slovenian poet Andrej Brvar grew up here. In the warmer months, the café garden sometimes hosts intimate cultural events. Currently open on Saturdays and Sundays, Fani&Rozi brings together Maribor's rafting heritage, local wine and contemporary life along the Drava promenade.
