On Planica above Fram, in the eastern Pohorje hills, Štern Tourist Farm – Pri Kovačniku has welcomed visitors since 1981. Angelca and Janez Štern were among the first in the Maribor area to open their farm to guests. Today, Barbara and Danilo Štern continue the tradition with the involvement of several generations of the family.
The kitchen prepares seasonal lunches using farm-grown and local ingredients. Specialities include Pohorje cured pork, kiblflajš, beef soup with liver rolls and bread baked in a wood-fired oven. A particular favourite is Grandma Angelca's Pohorje gibanica, made with fresh cottage cheese from a treasured family recipe. Vegetables and herbs also come from the farm garden, and vegetarian meals can be arranged in advance.
Families can meet the farm animals and discover traditional rural games. Those staying longer can sleep in rooms furnished with timber from the family's own forest. Weekend lunches require advance reservations, reflecting the kitchen's focus on freshly prepared food.
