Since 1991, thin-crust pizzas have been baked over beechwood fires in full view of guests.

On Dravska Street in Maribor's historic Lent district, Pizzeria Verdi has been serving pizza since 1991, making it the city's oldest pizzeria. At its heart is a traditional wood-fired oven, fuelled by beechwood and used since the restaurant first opened. Hand-forged furnishings add to the character of this long-established neighbourhood restaurant.

A distinctive feature is that pizzas are prepared in full view of guests. The pizzaiolo stretches the thin dough by hand, adds the toppings and bakes each pizza in the wood-fired oven. The menu combines Italian classics with regional flavours, including a pizza topped with pork cracklings, bacon and onion and a Karst-style pizza with prosciutto. The signature Verdi pizza is divided into four sections, each with different toppings: seafood, prosciutto, salami and four cheeses. Wholemeal dough is also available.

Located on one of Maribor's oldest streets, close to the Drava River and Old Bridge, the pizzeria is a convenient stop while exploring Lent and the historic city centre.
