On Špičnik near the Austrian border, Ivan Dreisiebner Winery stands beside the famous heart-shaped road winding through the vineyards. The family has been making wine here since 1777. The bend that creates the heart shape was built to negotiate the steep terrain around four decades ago. A viewing platform at the estate overlooks the vineyards and the road.
A distinctive feature is the vaulted wine cellar, more than 300 years old, where guided tastings take place. The range includes Chardonnay, Riesling, Kerner, Pinot Blanc and Traminer, as well as aged wines and sparkling wines. Tasting options feature three or four wines, or a selection of sparkling wines, with canapés and a cellar tour. The farm also serves cold-cut platters and gibanica pastry, with hot meals available for groups by prior arrangement.
The estate also offers overnight accommodation, making it a base for walking and cycling among Svečina's vineyards. Its combination of family winemaking history, regional food and the celebrated heart-shaped road makes it a distinctive stop in Špičnik.
