Inside the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor, beside Slomšek Square, Gledališka Kavarna (Theatre Café) has been a meeting place for the city's artists and cultural community since 1987. Its terrace overlooks the cathedral, university buildings and greenery of the square, connecting a café visit with the historic centre.
The menu includes coffee and breakfast, warm sandwiches, butter croissants and savoury bites to accompany a drink. These include cheese and cured-meat platters and homemade pâté. The café also makes its own cakes, alongside other sweets such as Marlenka honey cake. Lunches and other meals form part of the offering, although the selection may vary.
The café also hosts concerts and literary evenings, continuing its long association with Maribor's cultural life. It is open beyond theatre performance times and welcomes more than just theatre audiences. During events held in the café, table reservations may not be available.
