On Jareninski Vrh in the Slovenske gorice hills, Črnko Family Farm grows grapes on south- and southeast-facing slopes. The family has bottled its own wines since 1984, combining inherited knowledge with modern winemaking. A distinctive feature of the farm is its historic wooden wine press dating from 1833.
The cellar produces Riesling, Welschriesling, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Yellow Muscat and Traminer. Alongside still wines, late-harvest selections and traditional-method sparkling wine is the unusual Oceanus collection: wines and sparkling wine matured on the seabed of Piran Bay. This adds a different form of maturation to the family's winemaking tradition.
During guided tastings, visitors learn about the wines and their underwater maturation. The food includes homemade salami, cured meats, lard spread, wood-fired bread, potica and gibanica pastry. A visit to the historic press adds to the experience. Tours and tastings are arranged in advance, with the village of Jarenina nearby.
