On Vetrinjska Street in central Maribor, Karlek Natural Wine Shop has been presented as a wine shop and meeting place for natural wine enthusiasts. The project was founded by Tijan Wenzel, whose interest in natural wines deepened after tasting the wines of Božidar Zorjan. The name honours his grandfather Karl and also echoes the Swedish word kärlek, meaning love.
The focus is on wines made with minimal intervention in the vineyard and cellar and the stories of their producers. Karlek pairs tastings with local food and small bites, while bringing wine culture into contact with local art. The approach goes beyond selling bottles to introduce different styles of wine and how they are made.
Karlek also organises guided tastings, wine-and-food pop-up events and small-group visits to partner wineries. Tastings can take place at other venues as well. The availability of the former physical wine shop should be confirmed before visiting.
