Traditional Slovenian dishes, daily lunches and recipes preserving the country's food heritage.

On Slovenska Street in central Maribor, Ej, babi Slovenian Restaurant celebrates traditional home cooking and recipes passed down through generations. The concept grew from the work of Urška Šobak, who researches Slovenian culinary heritage and collects old recipes and stories from grandmothers across the country. The restaurant brings this knowledge to the table.

The menu focuses on Slovenian dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. Specialities presented by the restaurant include cheese-filled štruklji, roast pork, traditional sausages and radicchio salad. Daily lunches, soups, seasonal dishes and more contemporary meals complete the selection, making Slovenian food accessible to visitors discovering it for the first time.

The restaurant is closely connected to the Ej, babi heritage project and the video series Okusi zgodb (Flavours of Stories). Through these stories, Urška Šobak introduces traditional recipes and the people who keep them alive. Dining here also offers an introduction to Slovenia's culinary history.
