Marpurgi

On Castle Square in the centre of Maribor, Marpurgi is a café with more than twenty years of history. It has long been managed by Damjan Potež, with family members including his son Aljoša involved in its daily operation. Over the years, the café has become a familiar meeting place for local residents and visitors exploring the old town.

Coffee is central to the experience, with an emphasis on careful preparation and personal service. Alongside traditional coffee drinks, Marpurgi serves flavoured coffees with notes of hazelnut, coconut, caramel, vanilla and tiramisu. Refreshing drinks, beer, wine and cocktails complete the selection. In 2025, readers of the local news portal Mariborinfo voted it their favourite place for coffee in Maribor and the surrounding area.

The café's outdoor terrace on Castle Square stands beside Maribor Castle, home to the Regional Museum. Its longstanding staff and personal approach to guests are part of its identity. Marpurgi combines coffee culture, local social life and a central historic location.
