In Jarenina in the central Slovenske gorice hills, the Ovtar Jarenina Tourist Association preserves local food traditions and cultural heritage. It brings together residents and local producers, presenting traditional dishes and customs at community events. The association's rural women's group plays an important role in keeping regional recipes and cooking knowledge alive.
Two signature specialities are Jareninska gibanica, a traditional layered pastry, and koruzni tomerl z jabolki, an apple cornmeal cake. Both hold the Naše najboljše (Our Finest) local quality certificate. They introduce visitors to recipes and ingredients associated with the countryside around Jarenina.
The association also takes part in Jarenina Winegrowing Days and other community celebrations. In 2026, its rural women's group prepared food for the ceremonial harvest of a descendant of Maribor's Old Vine growing in Jarenina. It also organises activities such as Jarenina Cycling Day, connecting regional gastronomy with winegrowing heritage and outdoor exploration.
