St Florian's monument, castle architecture and stories of the city's former residents meet here.

Castle Square (Grajski trg) lies in Maribor's old town, beside the castle that gives it its name. This medieval square developed near the former Graz City Gate and has been part of city life for centuries. Known as Florianplatz in the late 17th century, it is now surrounded by historic townhouses, shops and cafés. Maribor Castle, home to the Maribor Regional Museum, dominates its north-eastern side.

At the centre stands St Florian's Column, a Baroque monument dedicated to the patron saint invoked for protection against fires. It recalls the devastating fires that once threatened Maribor. Another landmark is the former Scherbaum family residence. The family owned a major bakery and played a notable role in the city's industrial development and early electrification.

A familiar local meeting place is Ezl ek, the famous corner by Astoria Café, where generations of Maribor residents once gathered. Today, Castle Square combines architectural heritage with cafés, shops and everyday city life, remaining a social meeting point in central Maribor.
