Collections inside Maribor Castle trace the region's history, art and everyday life.

Maribor Regional Museum is housed in Maribor Castle, in the heart of the historic city centre. Founded in 1903, the museum moved into the castle in 1938. Its collections explore the archaeological, ethnological, artistic and cultural history of Maribor and the wider Styrian region. Objects ranging from everyday household items to works of art and noble family possessions reveal how life in the region changed over the centuries.

Highlights include collections of musical instruments, historical pharmacy objects, furniture, fashion and weapons. Permanent exhibitions explore medieval life, the beginnings of the museum and the history of pharmacy. The castle itself is part of the experience, with rooms that reflect centuries of architectural change and different uses.

Among the most distinctive spaces are the Knights' Hall, with its elaborate painted ceiling, and the grand castle staircase decorated with sixteen stone figures. The Loreto Chapel and former castle cellar, featuring frescoes by painter Matej Sternen, add further layers of history. Together, the collections and castle interiors tell the story of Maribor and its surrounding region.
