Vetrinjski Dvor stands at 30 Vetrinjska Street in Maribor’s old town and is among the city’s oldest buildings. Its history reaches back to the early 13th century, while its name comes from the former owners linked to Viktring Abbey near Klagenfurt. Centuries of rebuilding left traces of medieval architecture behind its Baroque façade, including Gothic features of a former chapel.
The mansion has a special place in local theatre history: Maribor’s first theatre operated here between 1785 and 1806. Architectural details include an entrance portal bearing the Breuner family coats of arms, vaulted ground-floor rooms and an inner courtyard. A restoration between 2007 and 2010 preserved layers of the building’s past and gave it a new cultural purpose.
Today Vetrinjski Dvor is managed by Narodni dom Maribor. Its hall, exhibition space and courtyard host cultural events, exhibitions and creative projects, particularly those organised by independent cultural groups. The former townhouse connects early theatre history with contemporary artistic life.
