This central square combines tree-lined paths, suspended lights and a busy festival programme.

Leon Štukelj Square lies in central Maribor, between the historic old town and newer office buildings. Opened in 2011, it was created by joining the former Vito Kraigher Square with part of Svetozarevska Street. Covering around 9,000 square metres, it is described by Visit Maribor as Slovenia's largest square. It is named after Maribor-born Olympic champion Leon Štukelj.

Its defining features are wide paved spaces, rows of trees and square-shaped lights suspended overhead. The design accommodates everyday pedestrians as well as large stages and event installations. Trees along the edges soften the transition between the open plaza and surrounding buildings.

Today the square is a major venue for concerts and city festivals. It hosts the main stage of Festival Lent, with music, dance and folk performances. Street-food events and seasonal celebrations also bring people here throughout the year. The square connects contemporary urban design with Maribor's cultural calendar.
