Stolp Photo Gallery occupies the Jewish Tower on Židovska Street, beside the former city walls in Maribor's Lent district. The medieval defensive tower now brings together historic architecture and photography. Maribor Photo Club was given use of the building in 1979 and, following its restoration, opened a photography gallery there in 1989.
Across three floors, the tower houses exhibition rooms, a photographic documentary archive and the club's permanent collection. This includes works by photographers of the Maribor Circle from the 1970s. Changing exhibitions feature Slovenian and international artists, spanning documentary images and contemporary photographic approaches.
The gallery is part of the Židovska Cultural Quarter, close to Maribor Synagogue and other exhibition spaces. Photography sometimes extends outdoors through displays beside the tower. The setting connects photographic art with the surviving city fortifications and the history of the former Jewish quarter.
