A stone column depicting the patron saint against fires recalls the dangers once faced by Maribor.

St Florian's Column stands in the middle of Castle Square (Grajski trg), beside Maribor Castle in the historic city centre. The Baroque monument honours St Florian, the patron saint invoked against fire and floods. It dates to the late 17th or early 18th century, when fires repeatedly threatened the city's buildings and residents. The square was once known as Florian Square in his honour.

The monument consists of a twisting stone column rising from a decorated pedestal, topped by a statue of the saint. Florian wears military armour and carries a banner and a bucket of water, which he pours over a burning house at his feet. The imagery reflects his traditional role as a protector against fire.

The column was removed from the square in 1872 because it obstructed growing traffic. After being moved several times and kept in a museum, it was restored and returned to Castle Square in 1970. Further conservation followed in 2004. Today, it stands among the townhouses and Maribor Castle as a reminder of the old town's history.
