Rococo ironwork and altar paintings depicting Maribor, Ptuj and Celje distinguish this church.

St Aloysius Church stands on the southern side of Maribor’s Main Square, between the buildings of the former Jesuit college. Designed by architect Janez Nepomuk Fuchs, it was built between 1767 and 1769 and dedicated to St Aloysius Gonzaga. Its Late Baroque façade, without a bell tower, is set back from the street, creating a small forecourt enclosed by a Rococo wrought-iron fence.

Inside is an oval nave with side chapels. A distinctive feature is a group of three 19th-century altar paintings showing views of Maribor, Ptuj and Celje. The main painting depicts St Aloysius with Maribor in the background; the side paintings feature St Victorinus with Ptuj and St Maximilian with Celje. Sculptor Jožef Holzinger made the original Baroque furnishings, most of which were later replaced.

Following the suppression of the Jesuit order, the church lost its original function and was used for a time as a military storehouse. It was reconsecrated in 1831. Today, the building recalls Jesuit education, Baroque architecture and historic views of three Styrian towns.
