Medieval charters, old photographs and exhibitions reveal the history of Maribor and its region.

The Maribor Regional Archives occupy part of a former Jesuit complex near Main Square, on Koroška Street. Established in 1933, the institution preserves historical records from Maribor, Slovenian Styria, Prekmurje and Carinthia. Its oldest documents include parchment charters from the 13th century, while its collections extend into the modern era.

The archives hold photographs, postcards, maps, architectural plans, private letters and official records. Together they reveal how towns developed, how people lived and how major events shaped the region. A particularly significant collection relates to General Rudolf Maister and the events surrounding the end of the First World War and the northern border.

Temporary exhibitions in the Archivum and Atrium spaces, alongside online displays, make these records accessible to a wider audience. Themes range from Maribor's former industries and architecture to everyday life. Workshops and educational activities introduce historical research, calligraphy and traditional seal-making.
