Jurček became a familiar face at Festival Lent and a memorable figure in Maribor’s everyday life.

Maribor Stories: Jurček tells the story of Jure Lipuš, a well-known local character affectionately called Jurček. He worked as a courier at Paloma, but was also a familiar presence at public events around Maribor. He enjoyed helping organisers, following the action and making sure, in his own way, that everything in the city ran as it should.

Jurček was especially associated with Festival Lent, where his regular appearances earned him the unofficial title of “director of Lent”. According to one anecdote, he stepped onto the stage, praised everyone for their work and declared the festival over, telling the audience it was late and time to go home. Such moments made him a memorable part of the event and the city's social life.

His life ended tragically after a road accident. On 12 October 1995, a car struck him at a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Maistrova and Cankarjeva streets. He died in hospital ten days later, aged 46. Part of the Maribor Stories collection, his story preserves the memory of a distinctive local personality.
