Maribor Stories: The Sheriff tells the story of Franček, a familiar local character from the Studenci district. As a boy, he often ran into the Zadruga inn at the beginning of Sokolska Street to fetch his father. Later, he worked as an assistant at the Maribor Automobile Factory (TAM), travelling to his job each morning on a workers' bus.
Franček loved cinema and its larger-than-life characters. A display case with cinema listings hung beside the entrance to the inn, possibly helping him choose what to watch. After a film, he would recreate scenes on Maribor's streets, staging imaginary Wild West shootouts and speaking in his own version of American English.
Residents remembered his lively street performances. In one recollection, he clung to a drainpipe on Gosposka Street and shouted as if acting out a scene from Tarzan or King Kong. His performances were also associated with difficulties involving alcohol. Part of the Maribor Stories collection, the account preserves the memory of an unusual figure in the city's everyday life.
