The Bench of Play, Laughter and Connection stands in the playground of Prežihov Voranc Primary School in Maribor. Designed by architect Lana Topolovec, it was unveiled on 22 September 2015 as the second art bench in the Stories of Benches and People project. Its wooden structure, combining natural and green-painted surfaces, serves as both seating and a playful feature.
The bench is distinguished by its dynamic shape and different levels, offering several ways to sit and interact. Children can use it as a meeting place or incorporate it into their games. Its varying heights represent past, present and future generations of pupils, as well as the growth of knowledge and experience throughout their school years.
Created specifically for a school environment, the design encourages movement, creativity and connection between generations. As part of Maribor's collection of unique art benches, it shows how an everyday object can become a piece of public art. Access is limited to school operating hours or times when the playground is unlocked.
