The Women's Bench stands opposite the Judgement Tower in Maribor's Lent district. Created by sculptor Metka Kavčič, it was the fourth work in the Stories of Benches and People project. Unveiled on 13 November 2015, it originally stood beside the tower. Following restoration, it was moved to its present position in September 2024. The bench is made of metal, wood and bronze.
Its defining feature is metal lace shaped like a woman's cloak, draped across the seat. The work commemorates women accused of witchcraft and condemned in past centuries. Beyond its historical reference, it invites reflection on prejudice, violence and the lasting effects of injustice.
The setting beside the Judgement Tower, a surviving part of Maribor's former defences, adds a historical dimension to the work. The bench combines a functional seat with sculpture and remembrance. It belongs to Maribor's series of unique art benches, bringing artistic expression into the streets and historic spaces of Lent.
